Silvia Bartoš Silvia Bartoš, head deputy of Kunst und Kultur,
additional working in the atelier is the coordinator
of the section "women" within this eu-project.

basics of the womens project
One of the first topics that had been discussed in a group of members of our studio in Kunst und Kultur was dedicated to women. For half a year we painted, pictured and wrote about women and their matters. Once in a month there was a meeting where the results were presented. There was also an active exchange, appreciations and critics about the pictures. Afterwards everyone went on in her own way. At the end of the project there was a festivity in our "Kunstraum" for two days, where you could get books, CD`s from female musicians, conversations with sexuality consultants, massage, a workshop for dances, a snack-bar, a disco at night, circle-dances, a brunch with reading and a lot of conversation…. Participants, members and guests - each woman made a contribution. It was a wonderful festivity. A colourful space had developed from women for women. This space, filled up with life, found a place in the hearts of the women, although the common routine was the same afterwards with all his different shades of grey.
The following presented project is an attempt to continue with this "spaces to live" and to include the women of the partner-countries.
November 2002
"WOMEN WELLCOMMED"

"Women welcomed" means two things: women who want to participate on our topic "spaces to live" and women ask women about their experience, source of energy, targets, wishes and desires.

In this project group, women take part, who have found a piece of identity by creative work. They tell us in words and pictures about their own life or tell us about their compliance with common routine with their own pictures. They want to ask the female participants from the other countries that take part in this project.

An exchange with texts and pictures could open the eyes across the boarders of their personal circumstances or countries in other social and cultural "spaces to live".

Maybe our partner - countries have also female groups, who can tell us about their work and can give us inputs to that topic.

Dorith N. My name is Dorith N. I was born in Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. I also dwelled in Salzburg and Vienna for a longer time. I am 44 years of age. May I introduce my "spaces to live" to you ? There are three of them:
people
The first of "spaces to live" was the picture of a healthy woman who can do her job in the economical world. The second was the space of a client, who keeps his secret about her sickness because of discrimination. And the third one was being the mother of three children, who had contact with healthy people. Today I am a member of a mixed world. I meet "healthy, physical handicapped and psychological handicapped" people. Slowly I get the self-confidence to talk to "healthy people" about my sickness (shizo-affective psychosis).
Schmerz
Since my 10th year of age, I collect my experiences in psychiatry. At that time my mother committed suicide and she was put in the hospital, where I visited her regularly. In these days psychiatry was horrible. With 16 years of age I got depressions, which faded away for some years. When I was 18 years of age, my father put me in the hospital for one year, until I was an adult. I still don not know, why he did that to me.
sadness
I am already retired, but I am allowed to earn some extra money by assisting physical handicapped people. In August, I worked in an old people`s home for half a day to test myself. I considered to decide for taking a part time retirement. But because of economical reasons and because of the constant load it is not possible for me to start a new career.
contentment
Above all I am interested in representative art and literary art. I prefer to paint my pictures with Acryl or oil chalk. I am looking forward happily to my Vernissage tomorrow. I also have written a book with the title "Stories of my Grandfather". I also take part in an amateur theatre actually. I am looking forward to organize an exhibition for my pictures once a year. One of my dreams would be to frequent the university of arts and to paint pictures abroad. Above all I am interested in representative art and literary art. In the Austrian Psychiatry a lot of things have changed in a positive way. But there are still a lot of prejudices towards people with mental sickness. How are the prejudices handled in your country? I rarely tell the people that I have a psychological sickness. If I do not tell, none will find out, because you cannot see it in the face. But I still hope, that I will be healthy again one day. How do you handle your sickness? What kind of hobbies do you have? Do you have children? What kind of dreams, wishes or plans do you have for the future?

I would be pleased to get in contact with you and I would also like to get some information about your "spaces to live".

My name is Rosemarie S. It´s my wish to take part in the EU- project "spaces to live". I would like to know your name.I am 63 years of age and I got three sons. (42, 39, 38 years of age). During the last years I had depressions. I have been alcohol dependent. Now I am clean for a longer period of time. In 1997 my husband Alfred died after 38 years of marriage I live in a flat with three rooms. I gave my house and the garden to my sons. The garden is beautiful, with a pool and a barbecue. There we celebrate happy family-parties. My hobbies are painting, hiking and dancing. I also started do play theatre at the pro mente a short time ago. I also like cocking, but I am allergic to grain and I can´t eat these tings. I am allowed to eat millet, rice, polenta, potatoes and vegetables in all forms. I eat less meat, but a lot of milk products and fruits. I am a protestant A.B. (Martin Luther). My grandfather has been vicar for 36 years. I do not spend every day in the same way. In fact I get up hard. While I am eating my breakfast, I take my medication, I also read the newspaper, and listen to the radio. Afterwards I eat a small lunch. My favourite dish is meat with porre and roasted potatoes. I have tried to describe myself a little bit, but I have to add what I like to wear. I prefer blouses and skirts. My hair is blonde and I also wear glasses. If I go to a concert, I take a little bit of make up.
